Placement Tests

In order to demonstrate a level of English and academic proficiency consistent with the demands of the SABIS® University academic programs, candidates are required to sit for the SABIS® Education Admission Test (SEAT™), which is a set of diagnostic tests in English, numeracy, and general knowledge.

Students must meet the minimum requirements in both English and Mathematics in order to be admitted to a degree program at SABIS® University.

In addition to the SEAT™, students admitted to the University must sit for tests in Science and Information Technology (IT) to determine placement in appropriate courses.

Students who are placed in beginner’s English will complete a series of English courses as follows:

Semester I will cover ENG 001 and ENG 002.

Semester II will cover EAP 001, EAP002, and ENG004

All these courses are remedial courses and carry no credit towards graduation.

Foundation Course Exemption: (Proof of English Proficiency) Students with the following international exams may be exempted from certain foundation courses in English.

These are:

  • TOEFL: The minimum English proficiency requirement of SABIS® University is a score of 570 on the Paper-Based Test (PBT), 230 on the Computer-Based Test (CBT), and 88 on the Internet-Based Test (IBT).
  • IELTS: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This requires students to obtain a subminimum of 6.5 for each subsection of Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing.
  • SAT I: A minimum score of 380 on the writing section of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) is required.
  • ALTE: Level A4 on the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) frame work or C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is required. This indicates that students at these levels are proficient to begin a course of academic study at college or university level.
