FIN 455 : Insurance and Risk Management
Prerequisites: Senior Standing
This course is an overview of the insurance business, including property and liability insurance contracts and risk typically covered by these contracts. The course details the principles of risk management for individuals and rganizations, financial aspects of insurance companies and markets, industry structure, managerial aspects of underwriting and pricing, and public policy issues. The course covers the process of risk management involved in the identification of risks and associated potential costs, analysis of the causes of risk of financial loss, determination of various strategies to treat risk, selection of strategies appropriate to the goals and objectives of the business, implementation of the selected strategies, and management and monitoring of results.
