ENG 407 : Jane Austen & Henry James: The Art of the Novel

Prerequisites: Senior Standing

This is a course for Primary and Secondary English specialists. The course studies two of the most memorable authors in the 18th and 19th centuries, Jane Austen and Henry James. Through looking closely at the craft of Austen and James, students will consider and discuss the art of the novel. Particular attention will be paid to the structure of the novel and the narrative techniques deployed in the novel. Specific topics, reading lists, and course outlines will be published annually.
