ENG 309 : Victorian Writing (including Dickens, the Brontës, Eliot, and Hardy)
Prerequisites: Junior Standing
This is a course for Secondary English specialists. The course explores the work of some of the most significant writers from the period and examines some of the traits that have come to be seen as typically “Victorian”. Through reading and discussing the works of Victorian writers, students will become acquainted with the main literary themes of mid to late 19th century, i.e. the self, nature, and society. Specific topics, reading lists, and course outlines will be published annually.
